Whether for backup to disk, as a simple department server or as archive system for video files - ES-2100 iSCSI/NAS series RAID systems are well established as a low cost storage solution for all cases, where Quad Xeon I/O rates are not required.
Until now available with only five disks, EUROstor has expanded this RAID by two slots. This compact RAID tower is now available with seven disks, too.
The difference oft two disks does matter, as these systems support RAID 6. This has also been the case with the 5-bay versions, but then using RAID 6 + one hot spare disk reduced the net storage capacity to that of two disks. Now this highly redundant configuration still results in the capacity of four disks.
Furthermore these new towers also support snapshots of the NAS volume. With these, backup can be much easier, as creating a snapshot costs only a few moments and then all data are available for the backup server without any changes while the original data can be accessed again by the clients. Also after unintended deletion or change of data, these can be restored without any problem.
ES-2100 systems can used as iSCSI and NAS servers at the same time, thus serving well for video archiving and similar applications: data streams with up to 90 MB/s are possible under iSCSI.
