The Specialist Association Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes FSK was founded 50 years ago, in October 1962, in Frankfurt. At that time however, the FSK was known as the Association Industry Foamed Plastics (ISK), the name was changed a few years later to Specialist Association Foamed Plastics. The FSK is thus one of the world's oldest organizations for foamed plastics and polyurethanes and until today is still the only national association in Europe. No other association in Europe comprises polyurethanes as well as other materials and has as many member companies as the FSK. Even during the early years the FSK was in close contact with polyurethane inventor Prof. Dr. Otto Bayer, who - like many other pioneers in the industry - was presented with the FSK's Honorary Medal for his achievements. For over 40 years, the FSK has been organising conferences on foamed plastics as well as polyurethane applications. The first Polyurethane World Congress took place 1987, under the leadership of the FSK and on European soil. Worldwide for more than 15 years and till today the FSK is the only association presenting an Innovation Award Polyurethane and an Innovation Award Foamed Plastics to students, young professionals and to businesses for their ideas.
Represented in the FSK are raw material and machine manufacturers, system houses, additive suppliers, plastics processors and OEMs such as Volkswagen and BMW, all of them as members and companies of the entire value chain.
