"In den letzten zweieinhalb Jahren haben wir mit food.de hart daran gearbeitet, den Online-Lebensmittelhandel in Deutschland zu etablieren. Wir konnten bereits zahlreiche Verbraucher von den Vorzügen überzeugen, ihren Supermarkteinkauf online zu erledigen. Innerhalb des letzten Jahres haben wir so unseren persönlichen Lieferdienst für frische Lebensmittel von den anfänglichen zwei Städten Berlin und Leipzig (2012) auf nun insgesamt 31 Städte ausgeweitet. Damit ist food.de bundesweit in allen Ballungsgebieten verfügbar. Das Bestreben von Amazon, nun auch in den Online-Lebensmittelhandel in Deutschland einzusteigen, zeigt, dass bei Verbrauchern die Skepsis gegenüber der Frischelieferung des Supermarkteinkaufs zurückgeht. Neben der Internetbestellung von Büchern und Kleidung wird in den nächsten Jahren auch das Ordern frischer Lebensmittel im Netz immer selbstverständlicher werden. Laut aktueller Prognose von Ernst&Young wird der jährliche Online-Umsatz in dem Segment bis 2020 auf 20 Milliarden Euro in Deutschland steigen. Dass Amazon nun auch Deutschland als attraktiven Markt für sich entdeckt, bestätigt, dass wir den richtigen Weg eingeschlagen haben."
