Dabei zeigt sich wie schon im Januar ein deutlicher Trend - Phishing-Angriffe rangieren nach wie vor auf den oberen Plätzen. Die berüchtigtste Bedrohung auf dieser Liste ist allerdings W32/Tibs.gen, auch bekannt unter dem Namen „Storm Worm“, der nach wie vor in immer wiederkehrenden Wellen ernsthafte Auswirkungen auf globale Emailkonten hat. Nach Giullaume Lovet, Leiter des Threat-reponse-Teams EMEA, wurden im vergangenen Monat nicht weniger als 36 verschiedene Varianten des Storm Worm identifiziert, wobei nur eine Variante allein für annährend 60 Prozent der diesbezüglichen Entdeckungen verantwortlich war.
„Die überwältigende Präsenz des Storm Worm hat weit reichende Folgen, da er benutzt wird, um massive Mengen von Spam zu erzeugen und zu verbreiten“, erklärt Lovet. „Allerdings ist der Kampf gegen den Spam noch lange nicht verloren. Bei nüchterner Betrachtung der Fakten zeichnet sich ab, dass die Spammer im Rennen gegen die Filterlösungen zur Content-Analyse – wie sie zum Beispiel in den Produkten von Fortinet integriert ist – langsam aber sicher an Bedeutung verlieren.“
