Für anspruchsvolle industrielle und wissenschaftliche Anwendungen bieten die Spitzenmodelle unter den MegaPlus-Kameras von Princeton Instruments, die ab sofort auch mit GigE Vision Schnittstelle verfügbar sind, höchste Auflösung und Bildqualität. Für bildgebende Verfahren in der Medizin, die Bauteilinspektion oder die Dokumentendigitalisierung erreichen sie mit einer Auflösung von 4872 Pixel × 3248 Pixel eine Farbtiefe von echten 12 Bit pro Kanal. Dabei zeichnet sich die mit Farb- sowie Graustufen-Sensor lieferbare Kamera durch ein äußerst geringes Bildrauschen aus. Damit selbst feinste Details nicht durch Störungen überlagert werden, setzt die Kamera auf optimale "Aufnahmebedingungen": Das kompakte Gehäuse beherbergt den 16-Megapixel-Interline-Progressive-Scan CCD mit einer Sensorfläche von 36 mm × 24 mm. Pro Pixel steht folglich eine vergleichsweise große Fläche von 7,4 m × 7,4 m zur Verfügung. Zusätzlich wird durch passive (EP16000) oder aktive (EC16000) Kühlung und optionalen Lüfter die Sensor-temperatur gesenkt, so dass Bildstörungen durch Dunkelstromrauschen auf ein Minimum reduziert werden. Über die FireWire-, CameraLink-Verbindung und die neu angebotene GigE Vision Schnittstelle können die Kameradaten bei voller Auflösung mit bis zu 3,2 fps übertragen werden.
