Der Index Dow Jones STOXX 600 hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren als Pendant zum amerikanischen S&P 500 Index als Benchmark-Index für Europa etabliert. Das Handelsvolumen der Derivate auf den Dow Jones STOXX Mid 200 Index signalisiert das große Interesse der europäischen Investoren an einem grenzüberschreitenden Midcap-Index.
Bislang durften US-Teilnehmer bereits die Benchmarkprodukte der Eurex handeln, unter anderem die Futures auf Dow Jones EURO STOXX® 50 Index und DAX® sowie die Zinsderivate Euro-Schatz, Euro-Bobl und Euro-Bund. Das direkt in den USA generierte Handelsvolumen in von der CFTC zugelassenen Produkten beträgt derzeit rund 15 Prozent des vergleichbaren Eurex-Gesamtvolumens.
Heike Eckert, verantwortlich für die Eurex-Aktivitäten in den USA, sagte: „Der US-Markt ist einer der wichtigsten Märkte für uns. Die Zulassung weiterer Produkte bietet unseren US-Teilnehmern neue Handels- und Diversifikationsmöglichkeiten.”
Eurex darf seit 1999 ausgewählte Produkte im US-amerikanischen Markt anbieten. Der so genannte „No-Action Letter“ der CFTC vom August 1999 gestattet Eurex US-Teilnehmer zuzulassen und definiert die Palette der in den USA handelbaren Produkte. Zurzeit sind 67 Firmen mit mehr als 1.350 zugelassenen Händlern aus den Vereinigten Staaten an das Eurex-Netzwerk angebunden.
