HAASE hat zusammen mit ihrem britischen Vertriebspartner Clarke Energy Ltd. (www.clarke-energy.com) für West Sussex eine MBA-Anlage nach dem Prinzip der Nassvergärung angeboten, mit einer Kapazität von ca. 300.000 Tonnen pro Jahr. Die MBA ist Kernbestandteil einer Contracting-Lösung zwischen Biffa Waste Services und der Grafschaft West Sussex, die über 25 Jahre laufen soll.
Biffa Waste Sevices (www.biffa.co.uk) wurde von der Regierung der Grafschaft am 22. September 2008 für das Projekt offiziell als "Preferred Bidder" ausgerufen. Damit ist die HAASE Anlagenbau GmbH Projects & Co. KG als Auftragnehmer von Biffa auf der Zielgeraden zur abschließenden Vertragsunterzeichnung, die für März 2009 nach dem "Financial Close" avisiert ist.
Der Vorteil des HAASE MBA-Konzepts ist insbesondere durch die anaerobe Prozessführung gegeben. Die biologisch abbaubaren Abfallkomponenten werden in energiereiches Biogas (Methan) umgewandelt und nicht - wie bei einer Kompostierung - in klimaschädliches Kohlendioxid. Das Biogas wird zum Teil aufbereitet als klimaneutraler Treibstoff für Autos und Busse der Region, zum anderen Teil dient es der Stromerzeugung.
Die Anlage soll auf der bestehenden Deponie in Brookhurst Wood (nahe Horsham) errichtet werden, wo zur Zeit die Abfälle noch unbehandelt abgelagert werden. In 2007 waren das rund 450.000 Tonnen, die sich ohne weitere Investitionen auf jährlich 630.000 Tonnen bis zum Jahr 2030 steigern würden.
Durch die Errichtung der MBA-Anlage wird sich das Deponiegut bis 2020 auf ca. 130.000 Tonnen pro Jahr reduzieren. Die Kosten für die Abfallentsorgung sollen durch das neue Gesamtkonzept von Biffa um bis zu 38% der Kosten reduziert werden, die ohne diese Investitionen auflaufen würden.
