IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard) steht für den globalen Qualitätsstandard in der Schienenfahrzeugindustrie und geht insbesondere auf die speziellen Bedürfnisse diese Industriezweiges ein. Daher nimmt eine Zertifizierung nach dem IRIS-Standard, dessen Anforderungen über die DIN EN ISO 9001 hinausgehe, immer mehr an Bedeutung zu.

Das 1927 in Essen gegründete Weiterbildungsinstitut Haus der Technik ist heute das älteste und eines der führenden unabhängigen Weiterbildungsinstitute für Fach- und Führungskräfte in Deutschland. Das Haus der Technik wird von einem gemeinnützigen Verein getragen und ist gleichzeitig ein Außeninstitut der RWTH Aachen sowie Kooperationspartner der Universitäten Bonn, Braunschweig, Duisburg- Essen und Münster.
