Nach Recherchen von Technology Review hat der Siemens-Konzern seit dem Jahr 1968 insgesamt rund
2,4 Milliarden Euro an staatlicher Forschungsförderung erhalten. An zweiter Stelle steht mit rund 390 Millionen Euro der Kohlekonzern RAG, an dritter Stelle DaimlerChrysler mit rund 350 Millionen Euro. Letzter auf der Liste der zehn am stärksten geförderten Unternehmen ist mit rund 187 Millionen Euro seit 1968 RWE.
Bei den derzeit laufenden Projekten ergibt sich ein ähnliches Bild: Die Liste wird, mit 85,2 Millionen Euro, wieder angeführt von Siemens. Mit Infineon (44,3 Millionen
Euro) und der davon abgespaltenen Quimonda (20,4 Millionen
Euro) finden sich noch zwei weitere ehemalige Mitglieder der Siemens-Familie unter den Top Ten.
