How to remove cable ties safely without damaging the cables underneath

A unique cutting tool now provides a safe way of removing plastic cable ties applied to wiring harnesses and cable assemblies. The EVO cut prevents the inherent risk of damage to the insulation of the bundled cables when using side cutters or knives.

Cable management solutions specialist HellermannTyton has launched the EVO cuta professional cutting tool for safely removing plastic cable ties from cable assemblies.

The unique tool prevents the risk of cable damage that can easily occur when cutting through ties with side cutters or knives.

We developed the EVO cut in response to requests for a safer way of removing plastic cable ties from high-value cable assemblies”, said Jasmina Prill, Tool Systems Product Manager at HellermannTyton.

Using the EVO cut helps our customers ensure the integrity of the electrical and data wiring in their critical systems whenever cable ties need to be removed during maintenance, repair or modification.”

The EVO cut is suitable for removing inside and outside serrated plastic cable ties of different sizes on both flexible and rigid bundles. It extends the HellermannTyton EVO range of ergonomic cable tie application tools.

Like the professional EVO cable tie guns, this lightweight cutting tool is simple to operate with one hand; squeezing the lever moves the integrated jaw blades effortlessly through the tie band.

The nose piece centres the tool on the cable tie and ensures that only the tie strap is sliced, not the underlying cable insulation.

The tool is supplied with three interchangeable nose pieces which correspond to a wide range of HellermannTyton plastic cable ties of different width and thickness:
  • Small nose piece: max. tie width 3.6 mm; max. strap thickness 1.2 mm.
  • Medium nose piece: max. tie width 4.8 mm; max. strap thickness 1.3 mm.
  • Large nose piece: max. tie width 7.8 mm; max. strap thickness 1.8 mm.
The two nose pieces not in use can be slotted onto the rear end of the tool for secure, convenient storage.

EVO cut (article no. 110-05005) is available to order from electrical wholesalers.
