At the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2017 in Hamburg, cable accessories specialist HellermannTyton will present the hitherto longest cable tie made from "PEEK" – the high-grade thermoplastic polyetheretherketone.
Boasting a minimum tensile strength of 300 N, the PT3B PEEK cable tie measures 250 mm – a good 60 mm longer than other PEEK ties on the market.
The PT3B is suitable for bundle diameters up to 65 mm and is considerably lighter than stainless steel cable ties.
PT3B can be used in the temperature range -55°C to +240°C. It's resistance to extreme heat makes it predestined for aerospace applications.
However, its high temperature characteristic makes PEEK challenging to process smoothly in injection moulding.
Fortified with over 80 years of experience developing and manufacturing cable management solutions for the aerospace industry, HellermannTyton has successfully evolved this long PEEK cable tie to serial production.
The PT3B is outside-serrated so that the smooth side of the tie band lies against the bundle, eliminating any risk of damage to sensitive wiring insulation. The tie's space-saving head geometry allows it to fit snugly on the bundle.
