Die Hochschule Bremen und InWEnt Bremen laden zu einem Vortrag "Morgenland und Abendland - Wege einer Annäherung" am Dienstag, dem 10. November 2009, um 18.30 Uhr, in die Kulturkirche St. Stephani ein. Referent ist der bekannte Journalist und Auslandskorrespondent Ulrich Tilgner, der von seinen Erfahrungen aus dem Nahen und Mittleren Osten, von kultureller Vielfalt, Konflikten und Lösungsmöglichkeiten erzählen wird. Bekannt wurde Tilgner als Kriegsberichterstatter im Irak, wofür er 2003 den Hans-Joachim-Friedrichs-Preis für Fernsehjournalismus erhielt. Seit 2008 berichtet er für das Schweizer Fernsehen aus Teheran. Das Grußwort wird Dr. Zahra Mohammadzadeh, migrationspolitische Sprecherin von Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, halten. Im Anschluss an den Vortrag gibt es Gelegenheit für Fragen, Kommentare und Diskussionen. Durch die gesamte Veranstaltung führt Lars Haider, Chefredakteur des Weser Kurier, führen.
Im "Morgenland" werden der Einmarsch westlicher Soldaten, Panzer, Hedonismus und Werteverfall zu Symbolen des Westens, im "Abendland" islamische Selbstmordattentäter, rechtlose verschleierte Frauen und unberechenbare Diktatoren. Diese Bilder voneinander erschweren einen Dialog, zu dem es keine Alternative gibt. Am Abend des 10. November stehen jedoch nicht Klischees und Polemik im Zentrum des Orient-Okzident-Diskurses, sondern Neugier, Respekt und Achtung vor dem Fremden, das uns in einer ungeahnten Weise bereichern kann.
Im Rahmen der Initiative "Bremen Open City" fand im April dieses Jahres die erfolgreiche Dialogveranstaltung "Internationalität und Weltoffenheit als Standortfaktoren" im Haus der Bremischen Bürgerschaft statt. Mit Vertretern aus Politik, Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft, Kunst und Kultur wurde über die Gestaltung von Weltoffenheit und Vielfalt diskutiert, Ideen für die Zukunft wurden entwickelt.
