IBM Datenbank Cloudscape wird Open Source

IBM kündigt heute im Rahmen der LinuxWorld Conference & Expo an, der Apache Software Foundation (ASF) mehr als eine halbe Millionen Zeilen Code der relationalen Datenbank Cloudscape frei zur Verfügung zu stellen.

Ziel ist es, die Entwicklung neuer Java-Applikationen voranzutreiben und so auch das Spektrum der Anwendungen zu vergrößern. Besonders Nutzer von embedded-Geräten und kleine Unternehmen profitieren von dem Open Source Projekt mit Code Namen Derby.

Mit Derby stärkt IBM die Java-Gemeinde, die weltweit mehr als sechs Millionen Entwickler umfasst. Die IBM Partner Red Hat, Novell, SUSE, Turbolinux, Red Flag und andere haben bereits zugesagt, Derby zu unterstützen.
