USB 3.0 industrial camera series with Sony IMX174 sensor and 18 MP/4K sensor by Aptina

(PresseBox) (Obersulm, )
IDS – the global market leader in USB industrial cameras – will be presenting a completely revised generation of its USB 3.0 CP industrial camera. The Rev. 2 of the high-end camera has been consistently designed for future generations of high-performance sensor models and features an integrated image memory. Models with the 18 MP or 4K sensor from Aptina and with the highly acclaimed 2.3 MP IMX174 sensor from Sony will be on display at the trade fair. The CMOS sensor sets new standards in terms of light sensitivity, dynamic range, and color reproduction, and combines these features with exceptionally high frame rates of up to 180 frames per second.

Both sensor models work on the BSI (back side illumination) principle. The IMX174 – available as a monochrome or color version – provides a resolution of 1936 x 1216 pixels in an optical format of 13.4 mm (1/1.2"). A sensor element with analog memory has been developed especially for capturing pin sharp images of fast moving objects, which effectively prevents focal plane blur by reading out all pixel signals simultaneously. It achieves frame rates of up to 180 fps. It also supports a dual frame output mode with various exposure times. The combination of the two images increases the dynamic range to 73 dB (12 bits), with the addition of high sensitivity and extremely low readout noise. The USB 3.0 camera is therefore ideal for use in poor lighting conditions.

The 18 MP sensor from Aptina is recommended in particular for applications in microscopy. With a resolution of 4912 x 3684 pixels (18 megapixels) and a 1/2" format, it delivers extremely detailed images and expands the already broad range of uses of the camera even further.

The CP Rev. 2 with the Aptina sensor currently is the USB 3.0 industrial camera with the highest resolution on the market; at full 4K resolution, it allows frame rates of 20 fps and even 90 fps at full HD.

With its industry standard dimensions of 29 x 29 mm, its exceptionally robust magnesium housing and screw-on Micro USB 3.0 and Hirose connections, it is suitable for a broad range of applications, in both industrial and non-industrial environments. The USB 3.0 camera series is available with the proven IDS Software Suite, which supports all the features of the new sensors. It also includes adjustable pixel rate and black level, multi-AOI, long exposure, and many other functions. A USB3 Vision compliant version is also being developed.
