Die Industrie- und Handelskammer (IHK) Bonn/Rhein-Sieg begrüßt die Trasse der Westbahn, sieht zugleich aber noch Erweiterungsbedarf. So spricht sich die IHK für eine Fortführung der Westbahn bis nach Alfter-Witterschlick aus, um Autoverkehre auf den Hardtberg zu reduzieren und eine Anbindung an die Voreifelbahn zu realisieren. „Die nun vorgesehene Trasse für die Westbahn entspricht den Vorstellungen der IHK“, sagt Stefan Düren, Vorsitzender des Verkehrsausschusses der IHK. Zwar wäre eine direkte Anbindung des Campus Poppelsdorf durchaus sinnvoll, jedoch lasse die nunmehr geplante Verkehrsführung weniger Widerstände und damit mehr Akzeptanz erwarten, so der Vorsitzende. „Mit der Westbahn lässt sich künftig viel Verkehr auf dem Fontainengraben, dem Schieffelingsweg, dem Hermann-Wandersleb-Ring und der Endenicher Straße vermeiden,“ so IHK-Geschäftsführer Professor Dr. Stephan Wimmers. Es werde auch weniger Busverkehr nötig sein. Durch die Westbahn ließen sich Umwege und damit verbundene Umstiege vermeiden. Wimmers: „Der Hardtberg kann so einfach besser an den Hauptbahnhof angebunden werden. Die Westbahn würde einen besseren Verkehrsfluss bei weniger Umweltbelastung bringen. Generell brauchen wir in unserer Region mehr Verzahnung der einzelnen Verkehrsträger.“
