Photovoltaik dient nicht nur der Energieversorgung von Haushalten, von Gewerben und Betrieben, sondern kann auch zur Energieversorgung von Flugzeugen genutzt werden. SolarStratos, ein Schweizer Elektroflugzeug, wurde genau mit SunPower Modulen ausgestattet. Es benötigt keinen Treibstoff, einzig und allein die Solarenergie reicht aus um dieses Flugzeug zu fliegen. Bis diese Technik auch bei kommerziellen Flugzeugen eingesetzt werden kann, sind vermutlich noch mehrere Jahrzehnte an Forschung und Entwicklung nötig.
