Eine Vielzahl von VDE Bestimmungen und DIN-Normen regelt in Deutschland die Installation von Niederspannungsanlagen. Diese Bestimmungen und Normen werden von Zeit zu Zeit aktualisiert, Hersteller sind dann dazu verpflichtet eine Konformitätserklärung gemäß dieser neuen VDE-Norm zu erstellen. Diese Erklärung bescheinigt, dass die Produkte den Spezifikationen der neuen VDE entsprechen.

Für sogenannte "Stationäre elektrische Energiespeichersysteme vorgesehen zum Anschluss an das Niederspannungsnetz" gibt es nun auch eine neue Norm. Das bedeutet die Hersteller für Batteriespeicher von Photovoltaikanlagen müssen nun eine neue Konformitätserklärung erstellen.

Der US-amerikanische Hersteller Tesla ist seinen Konkurrenten einen Schritt voraus und der erste Speicher mit der Konformitätserklärung gemäß der neuen VDE. Somit ist er derzeit auch der einzige Speicher, der vorrangig von Gemeinden, Städten und Kommunen verbaut wird.
