"At Ingram Micro, it's the people who make the difference. They care about their local communities and the world around them," said Greg Spierkel, chief executive officer, Ingram Micro Inc. "Immediately after the news of the earthquake reached us, associates began organizing local fundraising efforts from our corporate headquarters in the United States to our operating units throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Our thoughts are with all who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy."
Employees within Ingram Micro's 35 countrybased operations held fundraising efforts through the end of January. The company's associates around the world demonstrated innovative ways to participate. In Belgium, for example, associates organized a 24hour sales marathon, with 2 Euros earmarked for Haiti relief for every item purchased. Associates in the company's Latin America region headquarters in Miami, Fla. sponsored a bake sale, while offices in California, New York and Sydney, Australia, held "Casual for a Cause" days in which employees donated money to dress casually at work. Country donations were given to local Red Cross or Red Crescent organizations and corporate matching funds will be sent through the International Red Cross for immediate and longterm Haiti relief.
