The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is using the international trade show „Intersolar“ in Munich to present Thailand as an attractive location for conferences, meetings and incentives. „The solar industry needs sun to be successful. The same applies to the MICE industry“, Akapol Sorasuchart says, president of TCEB. „Some dark clouds showed up on Thailand's sky lately but now the sun is shining continuously again.“ The political struggles inside the country are solved back to normality; there are no safety questions open anymore, he comments the status quo.
Sorasucharts is positioning Thailand, which is known in Europe as a vacation destination mainly, as a classy MICE-destination on the market. „The services and equipments meet highest worldwide standards“, the TCEB president says. „Our organization supports knowledge transfer and enhancement throughout the market and its partners and is monitoring quality standards continuously.“
Growing demands proof the trend. So TCEB could acquire additional 41 events through the first half of 2010, world events and leading events for Asia-Pacific among them. „For 2010 we expect despite all disbalances through the last weeks just a slight decrease in numbers of visitors and MICE revenues“, he expects. „This very positive development is carried by a fast upswing our country has taken after the world economic crisis.“ Technologically high developed Thailand is recognized as one of the power makers in the far east. Thailands $261 billion economy is the largest in Southeast Asia. Last quarter it grew by 12 percent in comparison to the year before. This was the biggest growth since 1995. Institutions like world bank and several rating agencies expect a growth between 3.5 and 4.5 percent this year.
Thailand offers the by far largest and most important program for fairs and congresses in the region. Seven international fair- and congress centers offer indoor space of approx. 210.000 sqm – surpassed only by China, Japan, India and South Korea. „Many Europeans have spent beautiful holidays in our country. It would be very valuable for them to use the sunny business opportunities of Thailand for them“, Sorasuchart says. „We are not only a gateway from Europe to Asia, we prove to be a door opener for many industries as well: Presenting products and services to Thai markets means being recognized by our neighbors in Asia as well.“
