The Defense & Civil Systems division of the Jenoptik Group has been awarded a contract by an airline based in the Middle East to supply 40 airport ground power units plus 25 frequency converters. This will meet the airport infrastructure requirements for the whole country. The order is worth a total of 5 million euros. It was agreed with the client not to disclose names and details of the contract.
Delivery of the complete series of 40 units and 25 converters will commence in 2011 and be completed in 2012. Ground power units (GPU's) are typically required for providing the power supply for commercial aircraft on the ground, frequency converters convert the power from the public grid to the standard frequency of 400 Hertz used in aircraft.
