Shorter and more efficient processes will make the location even better equipped for the future. “Our aim is to become a self-learning organization. It’s not about a one-time effort to optimize processes, but about continuous and sustainable improvement,” says Michael Kierdorf, who is responsible for lean management in the company.
One of the main goals is to shorten the distance a product travels during its manufacture. Another is to take factors that are relevant for production into account as early as in the development stage. This can also help to avoid unnecessary waiting times during the production process. To achieve this, the company needs highly motivated staff; for this reason, job cuts are not planned in the course of these changes. “We want to set standards for all companies in the group. This will enable us to develop and manufacture products faster and better, even across borders,” says Dr. Josef Staub, CEO of the Schneider Group. At the same time, the company will be able to adapt more flexibly to changing customer needs in future. Next year, it should be able to transfer the results of process improvements at the Bad Kreuznach site to its subsidiaries.
