This is Solaris' first order for railway vehicles in Germany - until now they have been known as bus manufacturers. Opting for streetcar specialists Vossloh Kiepe, they have chosen a partner with long-standing experience in the field of electric systems.
The new Tramino Jena low-floor trams are 29 metres long and designed as three-part two directional vehicles. These new vehicles will undergo a modern design developed in order to suit the one-meter wide railway system in Jena. Delivery by Vossloh Kiepe consists of the complete electric equipment including the following components:
- Traction equipment
- Vehicle power supply
- Air conditioning system
- Control system
- Vehicle control
- Driver's cab equipment
- Passenger information systems, e.g. indicators, video, announcement system
The schedule for construction and delivery of the Traminos is quite demanding: The first of the vehicles are already scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of the year 2013. The Jenaer Nahverkehr will then have a total of 38 trams.
