- ▪ Kögel tailors trailers to driver requirements
▪ Faster loading and unloading
The starting point for the KTT was the payload and weight-optimised frame and body of the NOVUM-generation Kögel Lightplus. At the request of the pros who responded to our survey, the KTT has a whole raft of individual equipment: The Light trailer is fitted with lightweight equipment, such as aluminium rims and aluminium air tanks, to achieve the highest possible payload.
Naturally, the KTT also comes with the familiar benefits of the NOVUM generation. These include the new air and lighting console on the front wall, which transfers the forces into the frame via the side members, the new outer frame profile, which greatly improves the accessibility of the VarioFix lashing points, and the variable lattice pockets of the sliding and corner posts. Axles were another topic close to professional drivers' hearts. So we fitted the KTT with Kögel KTA trailer axles - axle units characterised by easy maintenance, excellent tracking and reliability -perfectly tailored to suit the trailer. The KTA's unique 'double suspension', made from a soft rubber bearing and a spring steel wishbone, not only enhances the driving characteristics of the trailer but also reduces tyre wear. We also integrated an axle lift in the first and third axles, which complements the dynamic wheelbase control perfectly.
Faster loading and unloading plus optimal load-securing
Respondents also had a lot to say about loading and unloading, as well as load-securing. So we fitted a Kögel FastSlider sliding tarpaulin system to make the tarpaulin easy to open and close. This quick opening and closing system is reinforced with mini stakes, which meets the DIN EN 12642 Code XL requirements for body stability. The system features a quick-opening lever at the front, enabling opening and closing in seconds, and a tried-and-tested Kögel expansion shaft and ratchet at the rear. The Kögel FastSlider system also features a Kögel Strong & Go integral roof tarpaulin. The KTT is fitted with the new Kögel EasyFix Stopper for quick and easy securing of the sliding roof when open. The Kögel EasyFix Stopper not only holds the sliding roof securely in position, but also allows you to close it easily after completing the loading process, without having to unlock it again. This system increases efficiency and safety during loading and unloading. For optimal friction-locked loadsecuring, the VarioFix perforated steel external frame is equipped with 24 pairs of lashing shackles, with each ring affording 2,500 kilogrammes of tensile force. For convenience, the KTT features load-securing for partial loads. The whole length of the floor and the roof strap are fitted with rails. Two vertical beams fitted to the top rail can be locked in the required position and the load secured crossways with three horizontal loading bars. The system is designed to secure loads against the direction of travel, fully laden at 27,000 kilogrammes.
More individual equipment for the KTT
As an add-on, the KTT is equipped in accordance with Daimler Guideline 9.5. This includes a pallet stop and a double front wall bulkhead, among other things. The KTT is also fitted with an ice-free system. This long inflatable air hose is mounted underneath the roof tarpaulin. When inflated, the hose pushes the tarpaulin upward in the shape of a slightly pointed roof, and accumulated water, snow and ice are easily and conveniently removed. This allows drivers to safely remove water and ice from truck tarpaulin roofs before and after driving, preventing serious accidents caused by falling chunks of ice.
To improve road safety and prevent turning accidents, this lightweight trailer is fitted with flashing side marker lights. The version of the KTT on display will be equipped with the Kögel LUXIMA LED multi-chamber tail light with integrated rear monitoring, which took third place at the international 'Trailer Innovation 2017' awards. To save space, the rear monitoring sensors and the platform approach aid are installed in the Kögel LUXIMA LED multi-chamber rear lights and the licence plate holder. This dispenses with the need for additional installation space at the rear of the trailer. Other individual equipment includes a pair of Kögel LUXIMA LED reversing lights at the rear, a Kögel LUXIMA LED working floodlight on the back wall portal for interior lighting, a brake lining wear indicator system, a tyre pressure monitoring system, rubber ram bumpers, a transverse Delta rubber profile, two large toolboxes, wheel nut protection caps, an app-based EBS data monitoring and control system, and much more.
Kögel Telematics
The KTT is also equipped with Kögel Telematics. Thanks to the BasicTrailer telematics package, which combines PosControl, TrailerControl and EBSControl services, the Kögel trailer telematics module sends our telematics web portal data such as real-time position, coupling status and EBS. What's more, the Kögel Telematics Connectivity database allows you not only to feed all the acquired data into the web portal and other fleet management systems, but also to import it – in real time – into existing processes and a host of software systems.
Cathodic dip-paint coating: lasting protection from corrosion
In the KTT, the entire vehicle frame is given long-lasting protection from corrosion by nano ceramic and cathodic dip-paint coating, supplemented with UV painting.
