The pumps will be installed in the next engine generation as well as in a new hybrid engine developed by KSPG's global customers. These projects are scheduled to enter series production in 2012 and 2013.
Besides the general advantages of variable electric fuel pumps with regard to packaging freedom and lowering fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, this pump type offers the added benefit of continued cooling during automatic start/stop operations, thus preventing overheating of the engine and possible subsequent damage.
These orders mean that additional international automakers are now opting for this KSPG technology, which made its debut in 2004 in BMW 6-cylinder engines.
