The adaptive KW DDC ECU coilovers are the intelligent aftermarket solution for Tesla Model S drivers who do not want to compromise on driving dynamics and ride comfort. In addition to the possibility of a proven lowering of 5 - 30 millimeters, the KW coilover suspension offers even more driving pleasure for the Tesla Model S with its three adaptive driving modes. “The delivery program also includes the KW DDC button, which switches within milliseconds between our recommended damping characteristics ‚Comfort‘, ‚Sport‘ and ‚Sport+‘" explains KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. „This allows Tesla drivers to switch the mode at any time and get a new driving experience.” In the KW mode “Sport+”, the KW dampers give the electric sedan a direct and unaltered driving behavior, a ideal setup for challenging rides on curvy roads with many load changes. The “Sport” mode is perfect for rides on the highway with long curves; while the “Comfort” mode is the ideal travel companion on poorly developed country roads and in city traffic. „In 'Comfort' mode, the KW dampers not only operate with a comfort-oriented identification, but our suspension control unit automatically adapts the damper characteristics to the driving speed”, continues Johannes Wacker. For more than five years, KW has been offering this retrofit solution with electronic damper adjustment for numerous vehicles, and ever since, the DDC ECU coilover kit has been proven successful.
The KW DDC ECU coilover kit for the Tesla Model S can optionally be extended with a WLAN box. This makes it possible to adjust the dampers of the stainless steel KW coilover suspension in real time via smartphone App (compatible with iOS and Android) in their damper characteristics individually on the load conditions, driving preferences or on the mounted alloy wheels. “Depending on the setting, the Model S acts firmer or more comfortable”, says KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. With the KW DDC App, the adaptive dampers of the KW DDC ECU coilover kit can be adjusted in their damper setup continuously from the maximum “Comfort” characteristics with a very soft damping up to the “Sport+” damper setup. Also, the KW DDC App has a vehicle-specific safety-relevant control range. The five available memory slots also allow storing various damper setups for different routes and afterwards share them with friends via E-mail.
Optional upgrade: KW Hydraulic Lift System
In more and more metropolitan areas, the streets are made traffic-calmed with speed bumps and even one or the other trip into the parking garage can become an unwanted thrill due to the low ground clearance. This is no longer the case with the KW Hydraulic Lift System HLS 4 retrofit kit in combination with the adaptive KW DDC ECU coilovers. Without any difficulties, the maximum lowered Tesla Model S can overcome everyday obstacles. At the touch of a button, the KW HLS lifts the entire body of the electrified sedan by up to 45 millimeters. The great advantage compared to lift systems with air bellows is that the suspension springs proven in motorsport can continue to be used and the driving dynamics of the Tesla S is not affected. “The spring rate does not change in the lifted or lowered mode”, explains Johannes Wacker. “Numerous sports cars that feature a lift system from factory rely on a hydraulic solution.” The KW HLS kit is also available as "bundle kit" with the hydraulic lift system and the adaptive DDC coilover kit.
