Lasers and Applications in Macro and Micro Materials Processing

State-of-the-art lasers and their applications in several materials processing fields will be presented. Fiber lasers and direct diode lasers with kW-class output power are used for sheet metal cutting. Ultraviolet lasers with 40W average power and ns-range pulse widths are used for processing silicon wafers and printed circuit boards. Ultrafast lasers with 10ps pulse widths are used in a wide range of emerging applications.
