ADLINK Technology Revives Legacy EBX Market with Atom(TM) -based LittleBoard(TM) 735 SBC

Intel's "Navy Pier" platform combines with on-board ISA bridge and serial ports to extend the viability of the EBX form factor for 7-10 more years

(PresseBox) (Duesseldorf, )
ADLINK Technology Inc. (TAIEX:6166), a leading global provider of trusted embedded products, announced the LittleBoard(TM) 735 EBX SBC based on the ultra low power Intel® Atom(TM) N270 processor at 1.6 GHz, code name "Diamondville". ADLINK combined the advanced low-power "Navy Pier" platform, Atom N270 with 945GSE chipset, with its Ampro by ADLINK(TM) Extreme Rugged(TM) design methodology to create a feature-rich upgrade path for previous end-of-life (EOL) products. With a lifecycle of 7 to 10 years due to Intel's commitment and reputation, the LittleBoard 735 breathes new life into the legacy EBX form factor market.

Besides the Navy Pier platform, the LittleBoard 735 supports legacy features including a PCI- to-ISA bridge for full PC/104-Plus expansion, four serial ports, IDE, CompactFlash socket, and embedded BIOS extensions. The LittleBoard 735 uses a thick PCB and is designed for to tolerate shock, vibration, humidity, and temperature extremes.

"In the current economic climate, the LittleBoard 735 is very budget-friendly, allowing EBX users to migrate easily their existing system designs, cabling, and PC/104-style I/O cards," explained Colin McCracken, product director for ADLINK's embedded computer division. "This product is the latest in a long line of field-proven Extreme Rugged products dating back to the first LittleBoard SBC in 1984. With on-board ISA bridge and DDMA BIOS extensions, the LittleBoard 735 reinforces ADLINK's lifecycle commitment to EBX customers by directly supporting PC/104 ISA cards without added bridge cards through the year 2015 and beyond."

About the LittleBoard(TM) 735

The LittleBoard(TM) 735 is a full-featured EBX form factor single-board solution measuring 5.75 x 8.0 inches (146 x 203 mm). The LittleBoard 735 supports the 1.6 GHz Atom(TM) N270 processor with Intel® 945GSE chipset ("Navy Pier" platform) and provides a DDR2 533 SODIMM socket for up to 2 GB of RAM. Independent 10/100BaseT and 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet ports give system OEMs flexibility. The LittleBoard 735 also supports Intel's integrated chipset Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA), sufficient for most embedded applications, which provides CRT, TV Out, and LVDS flat panel video interfaces for popular LCDs. Rounding out the performance-oriented features are two SATA ports, six USB 2.0 ports, and a PCIe Mini Card socket for 802.11 wireless or other plug-in cards.

The LittleBoard is legacy-friendly, offering four serial ports, an EPP/ECP parallel port, PS/2 keyboard and mouse interfaces, one Ultra/DMA 33/66/100 IDE controller and a Compact Flash socket. To provide the ISA bus on the board through the PC/104 connector, an ITE IT8888 PCI-to-ISA Bridge is included. The PCI-based device, together with unique Distributed DMA (DDMA) BIOS enhancements, completes the rich legacy I/O support for easy system OEM migration from end-of-life EBX products.

The LittleBoard 735 is a low power EBX solution that also facilitates migration, consuming less than 12 watts even with graphics and both Ethernet ports are running. The QuickStart Kit comes with board support packages (BSPs) for many popular operating systems including VxWorks®, Windows® CE, Windows XP Embedded, Linux® 2.6 and QNX®.
