First-to-market ATCA Blade with dual Intel® Xeon® Processor L5518 and AMC Bay

The aTCA-6100 supports Hyper-Threading Technology with 8-core/16-thread computing power for NEPs and TEMs

(PresseBox) (Duesseldorf, )
ADLINK Technology, Inc. (TAIEX:6166), a leading provider of trusted telecom computing products, today announced availability of the aTCA-6100, the first AdvancedTCA® (ATCA) processor blade in the industry featuring two 2.13GHz quad-core Intel® Xeon® 5500 series processors, Intel® 5520 chipset, up to 48GB of DDR3 memory, and an optional PICMG® Mid-size AMC bay for maximum computing performance and flexibility.

On-card connectivity includes dual GbE or 10GbE Fabric Interfaces, dual GbE Base Interfaces, dual front panel GbE interfaces, and quad SAS channels which provide leading edge network performance and storage capabilities. The aTCA-6100 is ideal for carrier-grade applications, such as media servers in IPTV, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) broadband networks, and wireless infrastructures, providing telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) and network equipment providers (NEPs) with a powerful, cost-effective solution for mission critical applications and a smooth path for scalability and expansion.

ADLINK introduced its first ATCA compute blade in 2002 and has continued its investment in research and development of ATCA products as demonstrated by the in-house designed and manufactured aTCA-6100.

Network equipment providers (NEPs) and telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) count on its professional experience and product stability. "The aTCA-6100 is the most recent addition to our ATCA product family and demonstrates ADLINK's leadership in the development of high performance ATCA compute blades. It is our seven years of experience in the design of ATCA board and chassis products that has allowed us to create another industry first - the ability to run 16 concurrent threads on dual Xeon processors CPU blade while still supporting an AMC Bay for additional peripherals, " stated Jeff Munch, CTO of ADLINK.

The aTCA-6100 implements two Intel® Xeon® L5518 processors supporting six sockets for DDR3-1066 VLP RDIMM memory up to a maximum of 48GB. The Intel Xeon 5500 series implements integrated memory controllers and Intel® QuickPath Interconnect (Intel® QPI) point-to-point link interfaces. Intel QPI provides higher bandwidth with low latency connectivity from processor to memory and Intel® 5520 I/O Hub at up to 5.86 GT/s. Also supporting Intel®

Hyper-Threading Technology and Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, the Intel Xeon 5500 series processors increase the performance of both multi-threaded as well as single-threaded workloads and improve energy efficiency. High speed data-transfer on the PICMG 3.1 Fabric Interface is enabled by an Intel® 82599EB PCI-Express® v2.0 10GbE Ethernet controller and Base Interface connectivity is provided by Intel® 82576EB PCI-Express® v2.0 Gigabit Ethernet controllers.

"The aTCA-6100 uses Intel Xeon 5500 series processors supporting DDR3 memory up to 48GB, and Intel 10GbE and GbE controllers to deliver the necessary performance for high-end telecom and media server applications requiring enterprise-class computing performance, memory capacity and bandwidth connectivity." said Troy Smith, marketing director, Embedded and Communications Alliance, Intel.

The ADLINK aTCA-6100 is the first ATCA blade with two quad-core Intel Xeon 5500 series processors and a Mid-size AMC bay, distinguishing it from other processing blades on market. Making use of ADLINK's advanced thermal solution and the elevated case temperature specification of the Intel Xeon 5500 series processors, the aTCA-6100 is designed to be NEBS (Network Equipment Building System) compliant.

ADLINK's new aTCA-6100 offers versatile storage support with 4-channel SAS RAID 0/1, 4GB onboard NAND flash, onboard 2.5" SATA HDD, and modular Fabric riser card for additional PICMG Fabric Interface protocols. The optional mid-size AMC bay supports AMC.1 PCI-Express, AMC.2 Gigabit Ethernet and AMC.3 SATA/SAS storage expansion. I/O features of the aTCA-6100 include Base Interface channels, Fabric Interface channels, 4 front/rear egress ports and update channels. Front panel I/O includes two RJ-45 GbE ports, three USB 2.0 ports, RJ-45 to DB-9 standard serial port and DB-15 connector for analog graphics. Combining high computing performance, high memory capacity and high speed I/O interface integration, the ADLINK's aTCA-6100 is specifically designed for high-end telecom applications.
