The LUMiSpoc® is a sophisticated single particle analysis system, similar to a flow cytometer, that measures the particle size distribution and particle concentration of nano- and microparticles in suspensions and emulsions with unprecedented resolution and an unprecedented dynamic range. The development was started by LUM GmbH Berlin in cooperation with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) Berlin. Among other things, nanoparticles are of interest in medicine to specifically transport drugs or vaccines deep into the body
Based on SPLS-Technology® (Single-Particle-Light-Scattering), an innovative laser module with integrated micro-optics generates a tiny, non-spherical focus. The particles are separated by means of microfluidics and pass through the detection focus one after the other. The light scattered in different directions is focused on highly sensitive sensors by optical components. The largely digitized functionality in connection with modern software (communicated with the specially developed platform-independent cloud and web-based software SEPView®) allows the centralization of resources, distribution of tasks and tracking of the measurements almost in real time.
The first devices have already been handed over to a global pharmaceutical company in the EU for the development of a corona vaccine and to two well-known national academic institutions.
The jury of the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Prize, chaired by Prof. Oliver Günther, Ph.D., President of the University of Potsdam, selected the ten best innovations in the capital region as nominees from 168 applications in the competition for the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Prize. The award ceremony with the announcement of the winners will take place on November 26, 2021.
About the innovation award:
With the innovation prize, the economic administrations of the two states of Berlin and Brandenburg honor innovative and outstanding entrepreneurial work every year. With the involvement of commercial enterprises and other institutions as private partners, the price was and is also a price for business for business. Since the first award in 1984 (together with Brandenburg since 1992) there have been more than 165 award winners and over 4,300 applications.
