inter airport Europe 2007

Exhibition started off with excellent figures

(PresseBox) (München, )
inter airport Europe, the 16th International Exhibition for Airport Equipment, Technology & Services, had a good take-off yesterday at Munich International Airport. With 603 exhibitors coming from 30 countries and an enlarged exhibition area of some 25,000 m2 net, the event is bigger than ever before. As for the visitor numbers, it also looks as if the show will continue its success story. “Already during the first show day we have had an increase in visitor numbers,” says Nicola Hamann, Exhibition Director inter airport Europe. “We are very positive that this year’s inter airport Europe will again be such a record event as the previous exhibition, where over 12,000 visitors from 126 countries took part,” explains Nicola Hamann.

The official opening of the exhibition took place yesterday. During the opening ceremony, Stephen Brooks, Chairman of the organisers Mack Brooks Exhibitions Ltd, said that he was pleased to be at the exhibition site of Munich Airport for the fifth time in a row. The location offered a perfect atmosphere to the leading international exhibition for the airport industry.

Robert Aaronson, President of Airport Council International ACI, declared that the airport industry is undergoing an impressive development: passenger numbers in Europe alone will almost double from 1.3 billion to 2.5 billion by 2025.

Dr Michael Kerkloh, President and CEO of Munich Airport, emphasised the responsibility of the modern airport to ensure that future traffic growth will be as environmentally friendly as possible. The key to sustainable growth lied in technological innovations, such as those presented at the inter airport Europe exhibition.

Dieter A. Heinz, President of German Airport Technology Association GATE, concluded that the goal of the exhibition was to equip airports with the most modern technology so that passengers will enjoy visiting airports.

There are again many novelties to discover at inter airport Europe: Baggage screening equipment which can detect liquids without removing them from hand luggage, new technologies which make baggage loss a thing of the past, and the most environmentally friendly airport busses in the world.

The enlarged outside area features giant equipment for de-icing, loading and servicing the new Airbus A 380. Brand-new snow sweepers, fire-fighting vehicles, boarding bridges and baggage handling systems are on display.

In the data sector enhanced biometrical technologies for face, fingerprint and iris scanning play an important role, as well as innovative systems for logistics and flight control.

inter airport Europe is open until Friday, 12 October 2007. Detailed information on visiting can be found at www.interairport.com/europe
