A further roughly 5,800 square metre hall complex with additional production facilities and offices is now being built directly alongside the existing company premises. The production and administration area of the competence centre for PCD tools is thus growing to a total area of 17,000 square metres. The Pforzheim works currently has some 460 employees, and further jobs will be created after completion of the new building. MAPAL is investing EUR 7.7 million at the site. "With this extension, MAPAL will have the world's largest factory for PCD tools. We are thus outstandingly positioned for the future," said Dr. Jochen Kress. The new building is scheduled for completion in spring 2015.
MAPAL WWS GmbH, founded in 1980, is the competence centre of the MAPAL Group for PCD tools. A highly flexible production system with independent production lines and optimised logistics processes was introduced in 2008. During the course of the expansion, the production processes are to be made even more efficient. The Design and Job Preparation departments will move into the new two-storey building, and the whole Technical division will be reorganised. The technical facilities that have been outdoors until now will be integrated into the new building and adapted to meet the latest demands.
