Siemens and Micronas announce development partnership in the gas sensor segment

The Fire Safety & Security Products business unit of Siemens Building Technologies is collaborating with the Industrial division of Micronas to develop and market a new type of Siemens fire detector based on Micronas chip technology

(PresseBox) (Zurich, )
The Fire Safety & Security Products business unit of the Siemens Building Technologies division and Micronas (SIX Swiss Exchange: MASN) today announced a development partnership. Their collaboration centers on the CMOS-compatible mySENS-chip technology that Micronas has developed with input from Siemens. Based on this technology platform, Siemens is working on algorithms for its fire detector application with the aim of bringing a new generation of spot-type fire detectors to market.

mySENS is a unique platform for semiconductor gas sensors that can be adjusted for different target gases. mySENS technology enables detection capabilities that no established methods can achieve. These include selective detection of different fire gases, minimal power consumption, extremely reliable detection and a long lifetime.

"We welcome this constructive collaboration with Micronas. Based on Micronas chip technology we will use our extensive knowledge of fire detection and our innovative strength to develop the next generation of fire detection equipment to market readiness," says Matthias Rebellius, CEO Fire Safety & Security Products at Siemens Building Technologies. "Gas sensors have the potential to revolutionize the fire detector industry," Rebellius adds.

"This cooperation marks an important milestone for Micronas as we seek to bring our mySENS technology successfully to the market," says Matthias Bopp, CEO of Micronas. "The Siemens partnership shows that a renowned manufacturer of fire detection systems has recognized the effectiveness of our mySENS technology. We believe that Siemens is an ideal partner for us. It has the technical expertise and sheer size needed to bring this new technology to market in the form of small, innovative products."

mySENS technology facilitates innovative products for the early detection of fires, resulting in highly compact solutions compared to existing devices.
