Minimax has been building a reputation for fire protection in the wood woodworking industry for many decades. At the previous LIGNA, the 40th anniversary of the installation of the world's first spark extinguishing system ever provided an excellent reason for celebrations.
20 years: Minifog PressProtect
Minifog PressProtect is a water mist suppression system for special risk areas. The efficient detection and firefighting technology for continuous presses and multi-daylight presses where combustible substances such as chips, fibers, paraffin and glues are reshaped under heat and pressure into a wood based board also convinced the approval bodies; hence it is the only system world-wide to hold an approval by both the independent German testing institution for fire protection and security (VdS Schadenverhütung) and by Factory Mutual (FM Global). The Minifog PressProtect system has securely protected the business of our customers in many cases and saved the industry millions of euros - already since 1995.
In honor of this anniversary, Minimax is able to show some impressive figures at their LIGNA stand: for example, some 270 Minifog PressProtect systems have been installed to date in 47 countries across all continents. Most of the projects - about 100 installed systems - are located in Europe. And almost the same number is installed in total in Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and the same number again in the American continent.
Within the past 20 years, the Minimax Competence Center Wood has equipped more than 140 different production facilities with one or more Minifog PressProtect systems. Each system is furnished with at least one fire detection and extinguishing control panels and about two dozen of special fire and flame detectors with varying ranges of sensitivity. Pipes with a length of several thousand football fields have been installed as part of these projects.
To date, Minifog PressProtect is one of the most significant developments in the field of fire protection for continuous presses and multi-daylight presses for the production of wood-based panels.
Fair novelty: Minimax SOLID SDE fire detection system
Visitors can expect more than "a walk down memory lane" at the Minimax stand in hall 27. We are delighted to show the new SOLID SDE fire detection and extinguishing control panel, straight from the Minimax development labs. The SOLID Spark Detection and Extinguishing (SDE) is already preconfigured at factory level for the control and functional monitoring of spark extinguishing systems in pneumatic suction and conveyor systems and in drop chutes. This functional concept makes it particularly easy to put the system into operation. Furthermore, the SOLID SDE is designed for intuitive operation. It analyses signals from spark detectors and rapid flame detectors and activates the extinguishing unit of the spark extinguishing system without delay. Through the integrated, adjustable spark counter, SOLID SDE is able to automatically shut down machines as needed in individual cases.
Minifog DryerProtect: Fire Protection for Industrial Dryers
Dryers continuously dehumidify combustible materials such as veneer, wood chips, sewage sludge or animal feed to obtain a defined residual humidity for the further processing steps. Dryers are crucial parts of the production process: Material supply and extraction points connect dryers as well as connected suction, recirculation and cooling air ducts to other process areas.
To prevent costly operational downtimes caused by fires in such an interconnected environment, Minifog DryerProtect combines fire detection, water mist and spark extinguishing technology to form a holistic solution. Fire protection can be tailored individually to the requirements of the different protection zones.
Fire Protection from a Single Source
Nearly the full range of contemporary fire protection devices is being used in the woodworking industry. Minimax is a VdS-approved system integration company for all areas - whether for combined spark extinguishing, water-, and gas-based suppression or fire detection systems - and is the only provider of complete combined fire detection and suppression systems with VdS approval.
Visitors to the Minimax stand 23 in hall 27 at the LIGNA, will experience safe and dependable fire protection for all process ranges in the sawing, wood based products, pellets and biomass industry. We will not only provide an overview of the past decades of fire protection in the woodworking industry there, but also show the way to current and future fire protection products and solutions.
