Die individuell zugeschnittenen Funktionen von X-BARRIER geben dem Kunden die Möglichkeit, die Wärmedämmung, die hohe Feuchtigkeitsbeständigkeit, die Klimafestigkeit und die Biegefestigkeit auf die jeweiligen Anforderungen abzustimmen. Nachdem MPI bestehende Kunden aus der produzierenden Industrie mit Mustern von X-BARRIER belieferte, wurde die hohe Leistungsfähigkeit des Produkts bestätigt. Dies veranlasste MPI zu der Entscheidung, X-BARRIER nicht nur in Japan, sondern auf der ganzen Welt zu vertreiben.
MPI erwartet, dass X-BARRIER bei der Entwicklung der nächsten Generation von Flachdisplays und Solarzellen eine zentrale Rolle spielen wird. MPI wendet sich dem Markt für hochwertige Verpackungsmaterialien für medizinische Geräte, pharmazeutische Produkte, leicht oxidierende und rostanfällige Materialien sowie Wärmedämm-Baustoffe auf Vakuumbasis zu - mit einem angestrebten Umsatz von mehr als 40 Millionen Euro in den kommenden drei Jahren. Darüber hinaus wird an der weiteren Steigerung der Gasbarrieren-Qualitäten durch Verwendung verbesserter Technologien gearbeitet.
Zwar sind Verpackungsmaterialien der wichtigste Absatzmarkt für die derzeit existierenden Gasbarrieren-Folien, doch eignen sich die neu entwickelten flexiblen Produkte von MPI auch ideal für die Verwendung in der Informations-Elektronik. Zusätzlich resultiert die Implementierung eines produktiven Roll-to-Roll-Prozesses, ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Bauelementen durch Einbettung organischer Halbleitermaterialien in eine gerollte Folien-Leiterplatte ähnlich wie bei einem Druckprozess, in einer beispiellosen Kostensenkung.

- Im Bereich Informations-Elektronik: Halbleiterchips, Leiterplatten, organische EL-Displays, organische Solarzellen, organische Halbleiter, Electronic-Paper-Lösungen usw.
- Im Bereich Verpackungsmaterialien: Medizinische Geräte wie z. B. Katheter, Nadeln, Fäden, Augenspülungen, Kontaktlinsen. Leicht oxidierende und rostanfällige Materialien wie etwa reine Metalle, wärmeisolierende Vakuum-Baustoffe, Luftschiffe, Ballone, Luftfahrzeuge und Automobile.
