Standby current of just 1.2 ?A when LCD function is activated

Gleichmann Electronics presents 78K0R/Lx3 16-bit MCU family with integrated LCD controller

(PresseBox) (Stutensee, )
Gleichmann Electronics presents 12 new 16-bit All FlashTM microcontrollers (MCUs) with integrated LCD driver in Hall 9, Stand 235 at embedded world 2009. These MCUs are ideally suited for use in battery-operated handheld medical diagnostic instruments, building utility meters for gas, water and electricity as well as applications in factory automation.

The microcontroller series includes 80-pin 78K0R/LF3, 100-pin 78K0R/LG3 and 128-pin 78K0R/LH3 and features an extremely low standby current consumption of just 1.2 ?A when the LCD function is activated and the CPU is stopped. This 90 percent reduction of current consumption compared to previous products was made possible thanks to an adjustable internal LCD reference voltage and a capacitive voltage splitting that - unlike conventional systems with LCD resistive network - does not produce any unnecessary cross current.

In addition to the proven 78K0R CPU core from NEC Electronics and the LCD controller/driver circuit, the devices are also equipped with 12-bit A/D and 12-bit D/A converters, various operational amplifiers and up to 128 Kbytes Flash memory as well as 7 Kbytes of RAM. A supply voltage between 1.8 and 5.5V is required for normal operation and also for Flash memory programming.

Due to the high level of integration, not only is the power consumption reduced but also the number of components previously required is also drastically reduced. This reduction of PCB layout area at the same time also reduces the costs for the peripheral logic.

Data sheets with main specifications are available immediately from Gleichmann Electronics. Samples will be available e/o April 2009 and, according to NEC Electronics, mass production is scheduled to start in October 2009.

MSC Technologies GmbH

Founded in 1979, Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH, in the same company group with MSC Vertriebs GmbH, has established itself as one of the leading pan-European distributors of electronic assemblies and components. One of the reasons for the high acceptance by customers and suppliers is the company's early focus on comparatively few, highly sophisticated products such as microcontrollers, programmable logic devices, displays and customer specific power supplies. From this, the resulting in-depth technical know-how of our sales engineers and field application engineers today enables us, if required by the customer, even implementation of complete new designs right up to the finished product. With two of its own ASIC design centers, the Gleichmann research laboratory in Austria and one of the largest and most modern programming centers in Europe, Gleichmann Electronics takes a leading role in terms of service and customer support.
