Sellafield is Europe's most complex nuclear site, and by far the largest in the UK. It is entering an important phase of decommissioning including emptying and demolishing some of the most difficult and complex nuclear buildings in the world.
The new Box Encapsulation Plant Product Store Direct Import Facility - or BEPPS DIF for short - will provide an import capability and above ground storage for contained Intermediate Level Waste (ILW). The facility will play an integral part in the long term plan to reduce the hazard on the Sellafield site and is an important step towards helping to address the decommissioning of the UK's nuclear legacy.
Peter Greenhalgh, M+W Group CEO EMEA, stated: "We are delighted with the award of this contract. M+W Group specilises in the delivery of major complex projects and we look forward to working with our consortium partners, James Fisher Nuclear, to providing Sellafield Ltd with a facility that will be a key asset for the UK in addressing the country's long-term nuclear decommissioning needs".
