"Innovations for maritime applications, ship-building and regenerative energies" are the main topics of this year's symposium in Papenburg. Well-known companies and institutes present current product innovations and project results in three parallel sessions: nano- and material innovations, lightweight construction and surface technology. The special guided tour through the MEYER WERFT dockyard provides insight into material trends in the modern shipping industry.
Renewable energies are the future trend and are among the most important markets for the German economy. More than 40% of all wind energy systems in Germany are found in Lower Saxony. This makes Lower Saxony the primary wind energy state in Germany. In the field of ship-building technology, too, Lower Saxony is staying one step ahead. In Papenburg, MEYER WERFT builds cruise ships at the highest technical level in one of Europe's most modern dockyards.
Against this background, the State Initiative for Nano- and Material Innovations in Lower Saxony is presenting the Second Nano and Material Symposium in Papenburg on 21-22/10/2009. The exclusive special tour of the Meyer dockyards will be presented by research and development experts and will focus on the latest technology developments and challenges in the ship-building industry. Thomas Witolla, research and development manager of MEYER WERFT, will report about the use of robots for tank inspections and fuel cells in the maritime industry.
On the second day (22/10), there will be an option to study the technical aspects of wind energy system construction, ship building and maritime applications. Which future-orientated material solutions can really hold their own in the market will be shown by technology experts in 3 parallel sessions (nano- and material innovations, lightweight construction, surface technology). The accompanying technical exhibition provides a tangible approach to product innovations and the latest research results. In addition, the participants will be comprehensively advised about sponsorship options at both national and European level.
Young academics have also been catered for. The "career corner" offers students and graduates information about general options for career entrance and open positions. Representatives from industry and research will provide advice for successful access to careers in the materials industry. For companies and research institutions, the career corner provides an ideal platform for discussion with potential young job applicants and for advertising current jobs.
In addition, the photo competition "Focus on Material Innovation" will again be held this year in cooperation with the Giesel publishing company. The aim is to introduce both the specialised and general public to the fascinating world of materials in an aesthetically pleasing way. The winner will receive a DIN A4 advert to the value of EUR 4 000 in the journal Automotive Materials. Interested parties can send their picture/photo to mail@nmn-ev.de by 30/09/2009.
