Mit der aktuellen Vereinbarung erweitern die beiden Unternehmen die bestehende Zertifizierung von SUSE LINUX für die HP ProLiant und HP Integrity Server sowie für die Speicherlösungen, Software und Services von HP. Martin Fink, Vice President Linux bei HP, kommentiert: „HP ist nun der erste große Hersteller, der Unternehmenskunden eine erprobte Linux-Lösung für den Einsatz vom Desktop bis zum Rechenzentrum anbieten kann. Wir haben als erstes Linux-basierte Server auf den Markt gebracht und sind heute der erste Anbieter, der eine einheitliche, komplette und auf offenen Standards basierte Linux-Umgebung zertifiziert und unterstützt.“
Chris Stone, stellvertretender Vorsitzender im Büro des CEO von Novell, ergänzt: „Novell arbeitet konsequent daran, die Bedenken beim Einsatz von Linux im Unternehmen zu zerstreuen und die Sicherheit, Skalierbarkeit und Zuverlässigkeit, für die Novell bekannt ist, in Linux-Umgebungen zu gewährleisten, und zwar auch auf Desktop-Ebene. Dass HP sich entschieden hat, auf SUSE LINUX zu standardisieren, bringt die zunehmende Unterstützung der Industrie für die Open-Platform-Strategie von Novell zum Ausdruck.“
Schätzungen von IDC zufolge wird der Markt für kommerzielle Linux-Client-Betriebssysteme bis 2007 im Durchschnitt um 25,4 Prozent pro Jahr wachsen, vor allem in aufstrebenden Märkten in Zentraleuropa, Asien und Lateinamerika.
