Oerlikon Solar ist weltweit einer der wichtigsten Initiatoren dieses Wandels. In der Schweiz wurde diese Technologie jahrelang entwickelt und gefördert, auch durch die nationale Koordinationsstelle für Technologie und Innovation (KTI) und das Bundesamt für Energie (BFE). Beide Amtsstellen haben damit zur erfolgreichen jüngsten Schweizer Industriegeschichte einen wesentlichen Beitrag geleistet.
Um der grossen Nachfrage und den gestiegenen Anforderungen von Forschung und Entwicklung gerecht zu werden, baut Oerlikon den Standort Trübbach weiter aus. Das Herzstück ist eine Pilotlinie, die erstmals sämtliche Produktionsschritte bis zum fertigen Solarmodul abdeckt und insgesamt eine Investition in zweistelliger Millionenhöhe erforderte.
