Die Entwicklung komplexer technischer Produkte wie Autos oder Flugzeuge vereint eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Disziplinen, die abteilungs- und unternehmensübergreifend zusammenarbeiten müssen. Das international standardisierte Austauschformat STEP (die Bezeichnung ist ein Akronym aus Stan-dard for the Exchange of Product Data) trägt erheblich dazu bei, die Interoperabilität innerhalb dieser heterogenen IT-Landschaft aus CAx- und PDM-Systemen, domänenspezifischen Analyse- und Simulationstools und anderen Anwendungen sicherzustellen.
Außerdem lassen sich mit Pacelab Suite 3.1 mehrdimensionale Beziehungen zwischen Einfluss- und Zielgrößen darstellen (multidimensionale Datentabellen), so dass ganze Kennfelder eingelesen und verarbeitet werden können. Dies ist beispielsweise im Umgang mit den Leistungsdaten von Flugzeugtriebwerken oder Verbrennungsmotoren von besonderer Bedeutung.
