The items on the agenda included various meetings with local institutions such as the Technical University of Mekelle, the Ethiopian Solar Association and the Ministry of Agriculture and Energy. The highlight of the trip was a big conference for Ethiopian entrepreneurs, private sector associations and public institutions in Addis Ababa .
Tobias Zwirner introduced practical Off-Grid solutions for Off-Grid supply with solar energy. Moreover, the local use of biogas attracted great interest.
Ethiopia has produced a sound economic recovery for several years, though the infrastructure for energy supply is by far not sufficiently developed and does not cover a large area. Especially in rural regions, the major part of the population has no access to the national grid or other energy services.
Together with the Bavarian section of the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) (Association for International Cooperation), the Bavarian Ministry of Economics has been supporting the exchange about a sustainable development between Bavaria and Ethiopia for several years.
