The linear stages are available for travel ranges of 26 mm, 52 mm and 102 mm. The linear axes with crossed roller guides and ball screws are suitable for applications in industry and research and offer a high lifetime at velocities up to 20 mm/s. The stress-relieved aluminum base ensures high stability.
A high-resolution, integrated rotary encoder takes care of the position metrology in the versions with DC gear motor. As an option, stages with stepper motor are available with a high-resolution linear encoder. When controlled by an SMC Hydra controller, they achieve a repeatable minimum incremental motion of 0.01 µm.
The noncontact, optical limit switches and reference point switches with direction sensing in the middle of the travel range also simplify use in automation tasks.
Variable Control: Mercury or Hydra
For single-axis control, PI offers the easy-to-operate digital C-863 and C-663 Mercury motion controllers for DC motors and stepper motors. DC servo motor control of up to four axes is possible with the C-884.
The highest positioning accuracy can be achieved with the L-509 stepper motor variants, which are equipped with a high-resolution, direct- measuring linear encoder. In this case, The SMC Hydra controls the motor with low vibration and high resolution. All PI motion controllers can be controlled in groups using the proprietary PI command set.
