Until successfully replaced by the automated pi4_place_THT solution process, conventional wired THT component application had previously only been possible manually.
Coinciding just on time with ending of the year, there has been yet another award for pi4_robotics GmbH for a new outstanding robotic technology: at the next47 Robotics Challenge, pi4_robotics pulled ahead competitors from the USA, China, France and Germany to receive the first place award for further development of pi4_place_THT for the Challenge. The company managed to present a feasible automation solution for use in the Siemens plant in Erlangen after only several weeks of development. “We already had the technologies required. But we had to adapt them and develop them further in order to solve the task involved.” states Matthias Krinke, a robot pioneer and Managing Director of pi4_robotics GmbH.
next47 was founded by Siemens in 2016 as a project intended to involve worldwide investment of around one billion Euro in forward-looking technologies in the next five years. It offers start-up companies the possibility to win Siemens as a customer through development of convincing solutions for particular types of application used at the company. The aim is to solve a core task in a Siemens plant.
As part of the next47 Robotics Challenge, next47 was looking for a practical production solution for the Siemens plant in Erlangen. It is here that SINAMICS converters are produced, among various other modules. The main printed circuit boards required for these modules are equipped by mounting them with electronic components such as capacitors. On account of different sizes and characteristics of the parts, it has so far only been possible to achieve this manually.
But automated wired THT component placement on the main circuit board is now possible with the pi4_place_THT. The machine can individually separate, control and precisely position components with wired connections on the circuit board. This results in higher quality and shorter cycle times. Other companies could also benefit from pi4_place_THT.
“The new technology is ripe for the market and strengthens our customers’ competitiveness. By creating optimal production conditions, pi4_place_THT can make a contribution towards securing European production locations, but it is also of interest for the Asian market.” says Krinke, who is presently engaged in intensive discussions with Siemens.
