"As sensitive fresh goods are involved here, the production, storage and logistics systems are extremely critical," says Dr. Clemens Plieth, Managing Director Service Delivery at Pironet NDH. "All critical systems must therefore be highly fail-safe and redundant."
Pironet NDH is also responsible for the operation of office applications such as MS Office and the mail application Lotus Notes, including a solution for mobile users. Some 850 employees of the fish manufacture use the systems from the German Business Cloud, which is certified according to the IT security standard ISO 27001. Deutsche See has also handed over the central accounting processes to Pironet NDH. These include the creation of printed documents, including around 30,000 pages of customer bills and 2,500 pages of salary statements.
12 times the bandwidth for the corporate network
In the course of setting up an additionally allocated corporate network for Deutsche See, Pironet NDH enhanced the connection at the company headquarters in Bremerhaven from 8 MBit/s to 100 MBit/s. The company's 23 other sites are also now connected over an MPLS corporate network and will in future also be equipped with VDSL links, just as soon as broadband technology is available at the various locations.
One highlight of the corporate network is the radio link between the two company buildings at Deutsche See headquarters in Bremerhaven. Without interruption, it can take over data communication from one location at the same high speed of 100 MBit/s, in the event that the network at the other location fails.
Suitable partner on an equal level
"When we switched to Pironet NDH we wanted a partner on an equal level who can quickly implement requirements and solve problems - and that has proven to be precisely the case," says Marc Neuschl, Director of Finances, Controlling and IT at Deutsche See. "Our expectations with respect to performance, security and costs of the new solution have also been met."
In addition, Thorsten Weber, manager of the project and responsible for the provider management at Deutsche See, emphasises the benefits which obtaining systems and the network connection from a single source entails: "In the case of two different providers or also with a larger provider, responsibility is frequently passed back and forth in the event of a fault. With Pironet NDH we have a central contact person who provides end-to-end management of our IT systems, from allocation and operation in the data centre right through to availability at the workstation, and who can clarify responsibilities in-house when problems occur. This overall responsibility can be mapped in comprehensive and replicable Service Level Agreements (SLAs)."
