Omnicube unites all hardware and software services which are required for cloud operations. For instance, the solution combines IT resources such as storage space, computing power and network in a single module, thereby dramatically reducing the complexity of classical infrastructure stacks. The individual modules - i.e. Omnicubes - consist of 19-inch servers of double the standard height. If the user company's resource requirements change, the systems can be enhanced simply by integrating additional Omnicubes according to the modular design principle. Each unit covers a wide range of functions, for example for intelligent storage space management (inline deduplication) or data compression, and also contains security and disaster recovery mechanisms.
Gold Award from VMWare
The solution is VMware-centric and can be administered via the VMware Cockpit V-Center. At this year's trade fair from the virtualisation specialists, VMworld, the solution attracted attention and received the Gold Award in the category "Storage and Backup for Virtualised Environments".
According to Katharina Gülpen, Managing Director of Pironet NDH Enterprise Solutions GmbH, "Omnicube makes it vastly easier for companies to enter the cloud era, because instead of struggling with the complex administration of conventional storage solutions, companies obtain a virtualisation appliance which enables the virtualisation environment to be handled simply." The solution demonstrated its capabilities impressively in initial tests: For instance the deduplication speed and the deduplication rate were many times faster than in existing solutions. The Omnicubes also perform such tasks autonomously and during ongoing operation.
Live demonstration in the event series "Treffpunkt Carlswerk"
In the coming months, Omnicube will be demonstrated on various occasions as part of the workshop series "Treffpunkt Carlswerk" (Meeting Place Carlswerk) of Pironet NDH Enterprise Solutions. The dates can be found at www.pironet-ndh.com/Events.
