“Blockchain is trendy and the entire energy industry is talking about it,” says Richard Plum, Product Manager Consulting at ProCom. That's true around the world. For example, in April he explained the opportunities and challenges in an expert discussion at China Utility Week 2018. “For many market players, it is difficult to assess the benefits of the technology for their own processes,” adds Plum. As the chair of the Energy Blockchain project of the German EDNA Bundesverband Energiemarkt & Kommunikation (energy market and communications association), he knows that for some the change is not worthwhile, at least not yet, while others should be taking the initial steps toward blockchain now so that they can later roll out their new business models with ready-to-go processes.
Blockchain: avoid, prepare or implement? Together with the customer, ProCom analyzes which strategy is best in each case. The Aachen-based consultancy also offers support for the implementation of blockchain projects.
