Die QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite 1.2 unterstützt RTP- und HTTP-Streaming und ermöglicht damit den Geräten, SHOUTcast und andere Internet Streaming-Media-Standards zu verwenden. Zu den unterstützten Playlisten gehören jetzt auch iTunes, RMP (Real Media Player) und WAX/ASX.
Version 1.2 verbessert zudem den Support für Cover Art von Musikalben.
Funktionen wie Abrufen, Cache-Verwendung und Vorschau werden ab sofort automatisch durchgeführt, für diese Schritte ist keine spezielle Programmierung mehr nötig. Um Musikalben von Apple iPod und Microsoft Zune-Player abzurufen, bietet die Suite nun sowohl eine synchrone als auch eine asynchrone Schnittstelle. Die asynchrone Version verhindert, dass die Benutzeroberfläche (HMI) blockiert wird, wenn das Gerät eine zu lange Antwortzeit hat. Weiterhin liefert die Suite Support für mehrere Abbildungen (wie etwa Front-Cover, Cover-Rückseite oder Anmerkungen) und größere Bildformate.
Version 1.2 benötigt deutlich weniger Speicher, vor allem wenn mehrere Anwender mit der Multimedia-Datenbank verbunden sind. Sie verkürzt die Dauer der Startphase und lässt die Datenbank schneller laden. Zur Geschwindigkeitsverbesserung nutzt die neue Version optimierte Algorithmen für die Metadaten-Synchronisation.
Weiterhin bietet Version 1.2 eine neue DVD-Navigation, die kombiniert mit den Video-Codecs des optionalen Intel Performance Primitives Package die DVD-Wiedergabe ermöglicht und auch die Video-Formate MPEG-4, H.264, MPEG-2 und H.263 unterstützt. Ein neues optionales Paket bietet Audio-Codec-Unterstützung für die TI OMAP 3 Codec-Engine.
Die QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite läuft auf verschiedenen 32-bit CPUs und DSPs, einschließlich ARM9+, SH-4+, PowerPC Prozessoren und TI OMAP sowie auf Automotive-Hardwareplattformen von Freescale, Renesas, Texas Instruments und Intel.
