For ophthalmologists, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is the method of choice for diagnosing numerous retinal diseases. Using laser light, the different layers of the retina can be visualized and therapy can be controlled and monitored. Up to now, bulky table-top devices have been used for this purpose, which scan the eye of the upright sitting patient and should be installed in the treatment room of the clinic or practice.
ROWIAK presents a mobile OCT device in handy pocket-size for the first time at MEDICA from 13 to 16 November 2017 in Düsseldorf. The Pencil OCT® consists of two parts: a docking station that fits on every desk and a handheld device which the doctor uses for the patient's examination. The handheld device is about the size of a digital thermometer and communicates wirelessly with the dock.
For the ophthalmologist, there is another advantage in addition to the simpler, more flexible handling and space saving. The acquisition costs of the device will be significantly lower than those of conventional table-top devices.
The device is currently in the prototype phase and is expected to be launched in 2020. ROWIAK will be exhibiting at the MEDICA at the joint booth Forum Medtech Pharma e. V. Booth E93 in Hall 3 and will present a design sample of the device and its functionality. In addition, ROWIAK offers the opportunity to keep up to date with further developments of the Pencil OCT® with only a short registration.
