SAC Pulsar beruht auf der Streifenlichttopometrie, mit einer Musterprojektionseinheit als Systemkern. Es zeichnet sich durch eine hohe Messgenauigkeit bei kurzer Erfassungszeit und geringem mechanischen Aufwand zur Prüflingspositionierung aus. Da Pulsar alle Lichtmuster mit einer Matrixkamera erfasst und auswertet, sind nur noch 20-40 Musterbilder notwendig; so kann auch bei kurzen Taktzeiten sicher geprüft werden. Per CameraLink oder IEEE1394b werden die Lichtmuster erfasst, an ein Bildverarbeitungssystem übertragen und dekodiert.
Dabei wird u.a. das Bildrauschen entfernt, das Höhenbild des Messfeldes errechnet, der Messbereich linearisiert und ein farbkalibriertes Texturbild erstellt. SAC Coake® wertet das 3D-Modell des Prüflings anschließend automatisch mit 3D-Befehlen aus, vermisst und bewertet es. Pin-Höhe und Positionen werden einmalig per Mausklick oder Angabe der Soll- Koordinaten eingelernt. Die Toleranzen können für alle oder einzelne Merkmale definiert werden. Innerhalb der Toleranz liegt das Merkmal bei einem grünen Signal, bei einem roten Signal außerhalb. Liefert ein Prüfschritt ein negatives Ergebnis, so wird der Prüfling als fehlerhaft klassifiziert und ein Signal an die Anlage ausgegeben. Alle Messergebnisse werden protokolliert und ausgewertet, damit Prozessschwankungen schnell erkannt und behoben werden können.
