SAP Public Services, Inc., a subsidiary of SAP AG (NYSE: SAP), today announced that Bernalillo County in New Mexico has selected and implemented SAP's flagship enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, SAP® ERP. The most heavily populated county in New Mexico joins a growing number of state and local governments retiring legacy systems, manual processes and investing in information technology improvement efforts.
Bernalillo County is home to more than 600,000 residents and New Mexico's largest city, Albuquerque. It employs 2,500 people and operates an annual budget of $585 million. Prior to selecting and implementing SAP, a competitive win over Oracle and PeopleSoft, the county operated legacy systems and used manual processes that made accounting and financial operations labor-intensive, difficult to integrate and costly.
Using SAP software will help make the county more economically efficient as well as help lawmakers better serve their employees, constituents and stakeholders by providing the tools necessary to automate and streamline most financial processes and improve access to data for more efficient reporting purposes.

By adhering to IT implementation best practices such as change management, training, executive buy-in and project leadership, Bernalillo County implemented the software in 11 months and on budget.
The SAP software, implemented by Ariston Consulting, will also allow the county to see a real-time view of costs and assets, manage inventory and streamline billing. Savings to the county come from reduced time needed for each process.
